Emerald Dingo is the two-axis stepper controller behind every terraPen — an ESP32-based board with onboard TMC2130 driver sockets, built for plotters, drawing machines and small CNC builds. If you're building your own machine rather than buying one ready-made, this is the part that does the driving.

  • ESP32 module integrated directly onto the board (RevB) — no separate dev board to wire in
  • Two-axis stepper control; supports both standard and CoreXY kinematics
  • Solenoid or relay-controlled tool head support
  • All peripheral connectors are JST PH2.0 — everything clips in, no soldering required
  • Dedicated E-Stop connector, plus onboard microSD slot for job files
  • USB-C for power and for flashing firmware
  • Runs an open-source Grbl_ESP32 firmware fork

Add the Z-axis add-on for a proper pen-lift or tool-height third axis — it plugs straight into Emerald Dingo's auxiliary port and uses stepper stall detection for sensorless endstop homing, no physical limit switch needed on Z.

This is a bare controller board for builders and tinkerers — it's the electronics only, not an assembled terraPen. If you'd rather have a complete, ready-to-plot machine, see the terraPen A2X.

Emerald Dingo — why it's the brain of terraPen

Two-axis motion control, built around the ESP32 and TMC2130 stepper drivers Wi-Fi built in — drive it wirelessly with terraForge, no extra module needed
USB-C for power, and for flashing firmware updates Plug-in wiring throughout — every connector clips in, no soldering required
Built-in emergency stop connector — a stop button is a plug away, not a rewiring job Onboard microSD card slot — add it as an option to load job files straight from card

Ready to add a Z axis?

The Z-axis add-on plugs straight into Emerald Dingo's auxiliary port and adds a third TMC2130-driven stepper, for a proper pen-lift or tool-height axis instead of a solenoid. It uses the driver's own stall detection for the Z endstop, so there's no physical limit switch to wire in.
